Philadelphia Jury Slaps GSK With $2.5M Paxil Verdict

Law360, New York (October 13, 2009) -- A Philadelphia jury on Tuesday returned a $2.5 million verdict against GlaxoSmithKline in a product liability case alleging that 3-year-old Lyam Kilker was born with a rare heart defect as a result of his mother’s use of Paxil during pregnancy.

Within hours of the 10-2 verdict in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, the drugmaker, part of U.K.-based pharmaceutical giant SmithKline Beecham Corp., said it would appeal....
